My birthday surprise was a beautiful weekend at the beach. No ropes course! This was a zoomed, iPhoned, Instagrammed photo from our room on check in. Just magical.
After all that snow at Christmas, I had been hoping to feel the sand between my toes again soon. It was my favourite beach weather too … sunshine … and then dark, moody clouds … and then little rain showers.
We lolled about in a beautiful heated pool and sipped champagne, walked for miles on the beach and ran through the sand dunes before breakfast each morning …
…whilst our boys spent 2 joyous days at their beloved Gran and PaPa’s, climbing trees and hunting for interesting fauna.
Since the heap of rain we had with the recent flood, the frogs have gone crazy and they were everywhere. Little boy heaven. I received nightly reports on the species that had been captured that day (released back to their Mothers at the end of the weekend of course) and there were also plenty of stick insect adventure stories. Some stick thingys came home with us in the end.
Eastern Dwarf tree frog. One of my favourites. Little darlings. So cute.
Apparently this one was caught just for me … for my viewing pleasure, on my return.
After all the recent rain, the dam is full and flourishing. Good value for young adventurous boys! Apparently there is a tiger snake over there in the rushes, feeding off all the little frogs. I stayed on the other side when I heard the word snake. The hike to the other side (in heels) was just not worth it. Not practical for a quick getaway. iPhone zoomed it instead.
The best part of my birthday is always my boys’ cards.
Precious. I love them so much.
Thank you for all your lovely birthday messages … here, twitter, FB and instagram. They absolutely made my weekend.
Another busy week. I am off to wake my tired boys. They’re worn out from their weekend adventures.
Monday comes around so fast.
Happy Monday!

So pleased to hear the stick insects also had a good weekend!
Snow and sand, you’ve had great holidays! Happy Birthday! Did you get a stick insect as a present? Your boys are so well brought up to write such lovely notes.

Warms the cockles of one’s heart, it does! So glad to see that oldest one is not above climbing trees! If my creaky self let me, I’d still climb them too!
those boys are precious. Once again, happy birthday.
Happy belated birthday dear A-M!! What beautiful words in your cards… I look forward to receiving things like that from my girls when they’re bigger
