A Little Foyer

I don’t think I am going to go for a long entrance hall next time.

I would like a little entrance foyer, with an L shaped staircase off to the side …

… with just enough room to tuck a little sofa or console in …. to make the entry warm and welcoming.

It doesn’t have to be big.

The smaller the better really, because you don’t do much in an entry foyer, do you?

I don’t.

 Cute.

This one from, Traditional Home, has long been a favourite of mine. I think this one started it all, way back when.

What do you think? Good enough for my next house?

Happy Valentines Day! I’m off to a party! For me! For my birthday …. which is soon … and I’m ok with that … the birthday thing … and getting older and all.

A-M xx

  1. They all look lovely, an overly large entry is a waste of space. I’m looking for a console or something similar for my entry at the moment. Not having much luck.
    Anyway, enjoy your party. xT

  2. Oooh, so agree on the entryway. I just love the squared off space which sets the whole tone of a house. I’ve always dreamed of a round table in my entry – like the second image. Happy birthday A-M – I am sure 2013 is going to be a cracker year for you! Rx

Hope you had a happy birthday, what goregeous entrances.x

  5. I love a decent entrance, too and while I wouldn’t normally go for zebra-style wallpaper I think it works here with the gold frames!

Happy Birthday, A-M! If I recall correctly, the lot is narrow(?) and I say, why waste space on a foyer and specially if you’re planning on the beautiful joinery that you so love.

Oops, meant especially. So much for deleting (backspacing) and changing up sentences!

  8. I agree-we have a long narrow hallway and it is quite useless. Too small to greet guests or have any furniture. Love all of those!!

  9. I love the shape of those entryways. You can actually use them because there is enough room for a chest of drawers (much more useful than a sofa) and a mat for dirty shoes and to stand and greet people.

I love the pictures of gorgeous foyers. People forget sometimes that they can go beyond functional (although in our cold winters you wouldn’t find many folks hanging out on a little settee by the door) ;)
