Despite having a bedroom of his own, my youngest has set up permanent camp in his older brother’s room. Older brother is so easy going it doesn’t worry him where his younger brother sleeps … but I think it’s time they each had their own space.
Sooo, I’m going to extract my youngest from my teenager’s room and create a space for my teenager where he can study in peace and enjoy some time on his own, without the ‘little flea’ and associated (constant) bug talk!
I am still drawn to these Restoration Hardware boy’s rooms, that I featured a while back. I love the whole industrial aesthetic for older boys. I love the neutral tones of these rooms and the use of varied textures, iron, rough weaves, leather. I am searching for nice pieces that will fit the criteria that I have been given: ” a bed, a desk, a bedside and some shelves for my stuff …. oh, and a world map” (aren’t boys basic? and so easy to please!). I have a leather trunk at the back of the shed and a couple of gorgeous industrial tripod lamps that will go perfectly. Just need a desk and some shelves and some manchester that isn’t in the red, white and blue colourway that is so easy to use for younger boys.
Once I’ve got my act together I will do some before and after shots and share them here.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with some groovy industrial inspiration from my visit to Restoration Hardware in New York and East Hampton last year.

I love all three rooms. I’m in the UK but am going to Florida in April and have already printed off the address and opening hours of Restoration Hardware! I can’t wait. I’ve just re-decorated my teen son’s room and he has a mirror just like the round one in your Restoration Hardware store photo (but his is smaller) – that was the thing he probably liked the most when he saw his room!
I need to find the right desk and want a gun metal tolix chair to go with it. I’m sure it’ll never be finished though!!
I love Restoration Hardware! I torture myself with their emails and it kills me that we don’t have access to their unique furniture here in Australia. Love their room gallery aswell – great for inspiration.
Boys are so easy! Girls are so hard to decorate for. Too many choices LOL. There is a place at Nundah called Panda Pearls that I have driven past several times in the last week. Out the front they have a set of industrial looking metal coloured draws. Its difficult to see how big the draws would be just by driving past, but its quite a big set. Hard to explain but I thought I’d mention it in case it could be of use to you.
Love the look of these rooms, my 2 boys still share 15 and 9 youngest can’t sleep without his brother there. Have just got a old world map from eBay for boys room, hopefully will be waiting when I get home.
beautiful rooms and great inspiration. My kids have separate rooms but are always asking to sleep in each others room. I only let that happen on Saturday nights else they’d get too tired. looking forward to seeing your makeover

I love their modern take on a tradition look and I am saddened that they don’t ship to Australia. Why isn’t anyone doing this here? No naff car beds or princess sheets! Just gorgeous, neutral, children’s decor that doesn’t date. Next time I visit NY, I’m heading to their store.
