Hamptons Inspiration

TheHouse2

It’s been almost a year since I purchased the land for the next ‘House That A-M Built’. I have a good tenant in the current property on the block so I have let him be and taken a breather from planning … seeing the hardest part is done … finding the land!

I am constantly revisiting my elevation plans and building on them. This beauty, that I photographed when I was in the Hamptons, has just reinforced the front elevation I have in mind. I knew I would find inspiration when I was there! That iPhone of mine got a serious workout.

I am going to have some sort of bay window thing happening at the front like this, with an L shaped porch wrapping around to the right. I’ll be having a few more lights in my windows though. I am a sucker for a 4 x 1! … or a 4 light x 4 light. I’ll take either. And as much as I love the roof line here, I will be doing the gable thing to be mindful of costs and to fit in with the city character code that I have to abide by. I do so love the colours and the trims …. and those gorgeous decorative eaves. Sigh.

Just perfection. In my eyes anyway.

Happy Wednesday!

A-M xx

  1. WOW. Love it. I’d love to paint our house a similar grey-maybe a bit lighter. Looks so clean and crisp with the white trim!!

I can see why you love that house. Timber houses are my favourite style but we have hardly any of them here in Adelaide – probably because we also have a lot of white ants! :(

  4. Just beautiful. It makes me wish we were building something a little more traditional!

Have been meaning to tell you but there is a CC “inspired” hose being renovated near to us. I should take some sneaky photos and send them to you.

You know, I really was beginning to wonder if this whole plan had been scrapped and I’ll admit, I would have been disappointed. I think the following quote will aid you in the building design process as one could forever keep “improving” a design, eh?

    Antoine de Saint Exupery:
“Il semble que la perfection soit atteinte non quand il n’y a plus rien à ajouter, mais quand il n’y a plus rien à retrancher.”

As translated by Lewis Galantière: … perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away …

  7. Love this house and especially the colours. I have been trawling the net trying to find a colour scheme for our renovation and this is what I have in mind. I might have to borrow this for my inspiration board if that’s ok? x
