I wish you were here, right now, to hear Rod Stewart crooning his soothing ‘Great American Songbook’ tunes, in pristine clarity, while I work and sip my breakfast tea. I am enjoying this heavenly work environment thanks to Bang and Olufsen who asked me to review the new B&O PLAY Beolit 12 portable sound system here on my blog. It couldn’t have come at a better time as we really have no decent sound system in this house. This little beauty has been incorporated into our daily life, over the past few weeks, with alarming ease. I’m gonna HATE giving it back #justsayin’
The B&O Beolit 12 is a portable sound system that features Apple’s ‘AirPlay’ technology. You guessed it! … it allows you to play music wirelessly through the system, from your iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC, when connected to your wireless network … or you can wire it up to any other smartphone or PC. It is designed to be portable and has a built-in power supply and rechargeable battery.
Do you know how much fun we have been having with this thing??!! It has the BEST sound and we have been playing our favourite tunes from anywhere in the house … from our mobiles and computers … whenever the mood strikes us. It’s been an absolute hoot … fighting over who’s the current DJ and who gets to play their favourite music next! It’s amazing to hear the full resonant sound of our music, something that we have never experienced before until now.
I was very relieved when I unwrapped it from the box to see that it has only 4 buttons. I’m a bit of a ‘fraidy cat’ when it comes to new technology and usually glaze over when presented with complicated instruction manuals. I actually handed the manual over to the boys, when I was unwrapping it all, and said, “read this and then give it to me in 25 words or less. 25 words only.”
We set it up in literally 5 minutes … connected the Beolit to my computer with the Ethernet cable, turned it on, pressed the network button, selected our wireless network once we entered an IP address into our browser, waited for the little white light on the Beolit to light up and ‘Bob’s Your Uncle’. On your iPhone, you’ll see a little orange square at the bottom of the screen to see that you are networked to the Beolit. Cinch.
So through your wireless network at home, you can open up a whole new portal … a life of quality sound! … portable, crisp, clear, booming sound! No matter what device you use, you can have the master control over this beauty. Oh yeah, we’ve given ‘Gangnam Style’ a good bashing….the bass is extraordinary … and I have introduced the boys to the glory that is Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ album, Beolit style. The boys love it. “Gee, she sounds a lot like Lady Gaga mum”. Have I mentioned how hard it is going to be to hand this beauty back?!!!
Up until the Beolit 12 arrived, we had been spending our nights, after dinner, huddled and hunched over the iPad, volume turned up as high as we could, learning our French with Michel Thomas. It’s been a challenge getting the volume and clarity with the iPad, with it’s limited speaker capacity.
Hooked up to this beauty and Michel Thomas is in the room with us! We can even hear him swallow between phrases! Now that we can actually hear it, we are taking our French very seriously. When Monsieur Thomas gets impatient with his studio students, we all jump to attention now that he is life size in volume and clarity!
It really is so incredibly versatile. It’s been a godsend for bringing my orchestra backing music to life when I practise my violin.
The boys are using the Beolit 12 for their piano accompaniments too! Big son’s ‘He’s A Pirate’ from the Pirates of The Caribbean – The Curse Of The Black Pearl’… is larger than life through the Beolit 12. We’ve had DJs sessions while making the school lunches in the mornings … and we’ve taken the Beolit 12 outside while we’ve been eating dinner in our ‘outdoor room’ …. and the little one and I have had snuggly movie sessions on the iPad, wirelessly hooked up to the Beolit 12 in bed, on the weekends. Spectacular sound! … and not to mention, hubby and I went to see Elaine Paige last week at QPAC … so we’ve been swanning around to ‘Sunset Boulevard’ all weekend, thanks to the Beolit 12. How am I going to give this thing back? How?
The Beolit 12 is available at Bang and Olufsen’s 11 stores across Australia and New Zealand and at selected David Jones stores. It retails for AUD $990 (which is so much cheaper that the usual Bang and Olufsen sound systems!) and comes in dark grey, grey and yellow with a solid aluminium grill. It only weighs 2.8kg and can be carried around by a full grain leather strap. It has a non-slip, and water resistant rubber top tray, where you can place your iPod or Iphone, and the system can stand up to a light drizzle if you’re using it outdoors. You can find all the details HERE.
I’ve also had a snoop around on their website. They have other beauties you can hook up to your iPad, like the BeoPlay A3, which is designed specifically for the iPad ,to transform it’s sound into something else! It can sense the orientation of your iPad and activate the relevant speakers accordingly, so you get the best sound experience, no matter how you turn the BeoPlay 3! How unreal is technology these days!
We are so obsessed with this gadget and it’s possibilities, we’ve even downloaded the BeoPlayer App HERE, from the app store for free. It has radio stations from around the world that you can play through the Beolite 12 (even French ones!) and a clock that you can connect up too.
Now the good news is, you have the opportunity to win the ultimate lifestyle transformation from B&O PLAY – there are 3 B&O PLAY Beolit 12’s to be won. All you have to do is join the Instagram competition – show where or what PLAY time will be with the Beolit 12, with the hashtag #beoplaytime. All the competition details are HERE. The competition is only open to those in Australia and New Zealand, until 12pm AEST Monday 26th November, 2012.
Do you think they’d notice if I slipped in an entry? Surely I’ve got a foot in because it is already enriching my life … well, until I have to give it back. I am going to do it! I am going to put in an entry! Have I mentioned that I don’t want to give it back? How AM I going to give it back? Hmmm…
… and Happy Monday!
